1/18/2012 If an atom were to have a mass of 57 and no charge , how many protons, neutrons, and electrons could it have?
If an atom were to have a mass of 57 and no charges, it would have 29 neutrons and 28 protons. It would also have 28 electrons to balance the protons.

1/12/2012 If I am making cake and use flour, sugar, and eggs, why does the cake have different properties than each of the ingredients that went into it?
The cake will have different properties than the ingredients because when you mix them, they mix together to look like something else. When you bake it, they heat up which causes a chemical change. It makes it puffs up and is safe to eat. If you eat the cake that hasn't been baked yet, you can get poisoned. When it is baked, it kills that poisonous stuff inside of it, and makes it edible. That is why the cake is different looking than the ingredients itself.

1/11/2012 The 3 subatomic particles are protons, neutrons, electrons. List, in ascending order, the subatomic particles sizes and their charges.
In ascending order, the neutrons (no charge) are slightly bigger than the protons (positive charge). They are both bigger than electrons (negative charge). The sizes of Protons and neutrons are 10-13 cm (approx. 1,5-2 fm). The electron may be 10-17 m, but this is only a calculated value.

1/10/2012 What does the period (row) on the periodic table tell you about elements in that row?
The groups show elements with a similar valence structure. The elements on the very left, for example, have 1 valence electron. This electron configuration tends to make them very reactive. The groups towards the right tend to have more valence electrons, but the orbitals are slowly filling up, meaning the elements at the right have stable orbitals.

1/9/2012 What is matter?
Matter is something that has mass. Most of the matter in the universe is composed of atoms which are themselves composed of subatomic particles. It can be a solid, liquid, or a gas. That is what matter is.

1/6/2012 Compare and Contrast molecules and compounds (Taffy Assignment)
The similarities between molecules and compounds, is that a molecule can be an element or a compound. They both have two or more atoms in it. How they are different is that a molecule is two or more atoms chemically joined together. A compound is two or more atoms, which are different, joined together chemically. The properties of the atoms lose their original characteristics and create a new substance called a compound. That is the similarities and differences between molecules and compounds.

1/5/2012 In an atom, what does each of your five pieces do?
In an atom, each of the five pieces hold what's smaller than it. The atom holds the nucleus and the electron cloud. The electron cloud holds the electrons. The nucleus holds the protons and neutrons. If anyone of these were missing, it would efect all of the rest of them. Without the Molecule, all of them wouldn't be there. That is what the five pieces do in the atom.

1/4/2011 What is the breakdown of an atom?
The breakdown of an atom, is an atom breaking down into nucleus and a electron cload. The electron cloud breaks down into an electron, and the nucleus breaks down into protons and neutrons. Its kinda hard to explain without showing the picture. So that's what the breakdown of an atom is?

1/3/2011 What are your career aspirations?
My career aspirations are to go to college in enginering. I want to be in engineering, because I want to work with computers, video games, and other electronic devices. I want to work with these things, because I want to get involved with and learn more about them. I also want to be able to help other people with their electronic stuff. So that is what my career aspirations are.
